In many of the world's harvest traditions, you'll find some form of ancestor veneration - honoring those that have past as the season changes and the crops fade. For this soap, I was inspired by the Celtic harvest festival of Samhain, which features ancestor veneration, and have included marigolds as a nod to the Mexican holiday of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Dia de los Muertos is a holiday for honoring one's ancestors, but it is not a harvest festival. It does occur at the same time as Samhain, and both celebrations share a connection through their ties to early Christianity and Allhallowtide.
Ancestors is a rosemary (for remberance) infused soap naturally colored with a combination of madder root and annatto. This soap is naturally scented with essential oils of frankincense, cedarwood, sweet orange, and a wee bit of cassia for a scent that is seasonally smokey, woodsy, and comforting.
